NI farmers visit Stabilisers to look at innovation

20 farmers from Northern Ireland came to visit Givendale and Wold Farms as well as Doug Dears finishing unit near Selby. The trip was supported by Farm Innovation Tours and CAFRE, and the farmers had presentations from Jimmy Hyslop.

The focus of this trip was how alternative marketing arrangements can improve profitability for the farmers and can improve health, welfare and performance of suckler beef cattle. The trip highlighted that the recording data such as residual feed intake is an important way to identify efficient, low maintenance cattle which reduce greenhouse gases and the information can be used in genetic evaluations, and how this delivers into returns on the farm.
