Background
Reducing costs is vital for the sustainability of the UK Beef Industry. SCC is leading the development of a composite breeding programme that offers a range of cost saving advantages whilst maintaining the economic production of high eating quality beef.
The breeding programme is based on the Leachman Stabiliser, this is a composite made up of half British breeds and half maternal Continental breeds and it offers some of the most cost effective suckler cow economics available.
SCC Aims To:-
1. Reduce fixed and variable costs of breeding and finishing systems
2. Improve suckler cow productivity
3. Manage the direction of the Stabiliser™ breeding programme to maximise profit potential
4. Use animal performance records for maternal and terminal sire traits to optimise genetic improvement
5. Develop marketing strategies for surplus breeding stock from recorded Stabiliser™ herds
6. Develop the Givendale™ Prime brand and marketing plan to ensure farmers receive a higher share of retail value.
7. Satisfy consumer requirements for eating quality, traceability, animal welfare and environmental stewardship.
