BIG US TRIP 2018 - Day 2

Day 2

Chris Grubl Alkali Ranch

An impressive drive through Wyoming countryside brought us to Sturgis in South Dakota, 3 states witin the 3 days of arrival.

Chris Grubl at Alkali Ranch, farms in partnership with his sons Adam and Lucas, they have been a Leachman Co-operator many years and have raised and own several herd sires featured in the Leachman Elite Semen cooperative.

They run 600 cows and as others send bulls to LCOC where they are tested for feed efficiency and selected for breeding the remaining are sent to the feedlot.

Chris sold 250 bulls in the Leachman sale and averaged $400 profit higher than any other breeder making him one of Leachman’s top breeders

The farm is 14,000 hectares (5000 acres) of which he makes 2000 acres of hay.

Looking across the plains is very impressive and unable to be relayed by pictures because of the vast expanse.

We saw a new bull that Chris had on farm Leachman Accelerate he was a Leachman Advance son.

Advance is consistently siring some of the highest performance cattle in the program with moderate birth and high carcase merit.

After leaving Sturgis we headed for Alliance Nebraska diverting off to visit Mount Rushmore which is an impressive sight to see.
